Hmmm. Much better. Carey is still a jerk but, he's our jerk. And he is constantly in this state of bruised sleep deprivation. And I'm starting to see the arc of these books as we approach eventual spiritual armageddon.
And I don't think we are done. Still a few too many loose ends fluttering around. I look forward to more books in the series.
I juxtapose this against Charlie Stross "Luandry Series" which deals with very similar themes. But rather than use a flute to destroy demons, it's all about the computer programs and high tech gadgets to fight the undead with a heavy dose of British Civil Servitude. The first two books were fun but now the book is mired in the details of Bureaucracy. The latest is "The Fuller Memorandum" and it was just a confusing wayward mess. There was a lot of minutiae without a lot of story. I say more Carey, less Stross.
