I was amused to discover mi Reggae accomplice Ben hadn't even heard of this film so I revoked his Rasta card until he watched it today. I rewatched it while folding laundry.
It’s still fascinating. The gratuitous topless scene in the beginning sets an awkward tone, but Edwin ‘Countryman’ Lothan is the real deal when it comes to Rasta. He’s so charismatic with is patois & wisdom. There’s a lot of cheesy bits - the nunchuck in the beach right is priceless - but there’s authenticity too and a roots reggae vibe. I love the way obeah is represented. Another postcard from a Jamaica when reggae was first blooming.
Recommended for Rasta D00Mers who haven’t seen it already, which I imagine is no one. Even cf has seen it and he’s no Rasta.
