i coulda sworn I posted this trailer.
An asteroid hits the Arctic triggering a great flood. Our heroine is a single mom with a son with medical issues living in a mega-high rise apartment like they have in Asia and it is rapidly getting flooded. There are some good water effects and amazing shots - like a throwback to those 70s disaster flicks.
Then, being a K-flick, it’s about something completely different. A classic K-flick twist. I won’t spoil it - I didn’t see it coming at all but caught on quickly as soon as the mcguffin got teased. Now it’s a sci-fi mystery.
Then, it goes back to the original disaster flick plot in a borderline meta way. The mcguffin was such a side step that the original arc came out of focus, but it all comes around by the end. There’s a part of me that wanted to rewatch the pre-mcguffin part to see if everything fitted. I feel there mightve been some loose ends.
I was entertained throughout although I felt the mcguffin could’ve happened later because the conclusion felt a bit longer than it needed to be. Overall, I felt it was good but it seemed just shy of great, which made it a touch unsatisfactory in the end, like there could’ve been just a little more depth.
Recommended for D00Mers who like disaster flicks & k-flicks with a sci-fi spin.
