I'm not certain, but I think the Carousel of Sexism is still playing at Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando.
I'm totally with you on Journey Through Inner Space. Loved that ride. Again, Paul Frees with the narration.
Mission to Mars (Rocket to the Moon) in Orlando got re-done as Alien Encounter. Slightly higher tech, but essentially the same type of experience.
Most of the old, gone rides have dispersed to the four winds. Many a long-time Imagineer has a skybucket in their back yard. At the Imagineering lunch patio, they have skybuckets, People Movers and some other gone ride chariots scattered amongst the more traditional tables and chairs.

At least they haven't injected Eddie Murphy into the Haunted Mansion. Phew!

Is it true that they are getting rid of the submarines at Disneyland too? It was the cheesiness combined with aging that really made it. Like Small World before they redid it, where some of the puppets mouths didn't work right and it was just sort of shabby. Ah simple pleasures.
Maybe they will make a movie about the jungle cruise....
Special thanks to HK for knowing the name of the miniaturization ride. Everyone I know just calls it the Monsanto ride.

Crap, when did that happend. No more gold panning? No more Injun Jim's Canoe ride? No Lost Dutchman ride? No Site Mysterioso. I feel so old.
Disney also got rid of the telephone center which I always enjoyed but realize was a complete waste of space. It made a huge gift shop.

Submarines has been gone from Disneyland for about 7 years. The lagoon is still there though. It was initially speculated that an Atlantis themed sub ride would go in there. That was before Atlantis tanked at the box office. Perhaps you'll find some relevant information on my current assignment at work by reading the following:

That shows you the last time I was at Disneyland. I didn't think it had been that long, but I do remember my niece was 2, and now she is 11. Maybe I'm too much of a curmudgeon for Disneyland. I like the classic rides. If they get rid of the Peter Pan ride and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, then I'm definitely not going back.
I can't say I like the idea of a Nemo submarine ride. (If it were Captain Nemo, I'd be more into it.) But then I didn't like Finding Nemo. (It did look great though.) But at least the concept is reasonable, unlike Nemo on Ice.

While I'm pretty bored with the "Star Tours" style rides (here's what you're going to do, oh no we're all in peril, yay we're saved now get lost and buy something as you exit through the gift shop), I'm all for something based on Finding Nemo, especially if it's long on Dory and/or the characters in the aquarium in the Sydney dentist's office and short on Albert Brooks. :prayer:

..the submarine ride was all gutted. It actually looked cool that way and everyone was buzzing about it becoming Nemo soon. I do miss the cross-eyed dragon. I hear you about Captain Nemo, Bob.
I think every ride should be a Disney movie - Matterhorn, Jungle Cruise, the Train, everything. Instead they go the other way - Star Tours, Indiana Jones, etc. Now movies absorb rides like the submarine and Nemo or the Swiss Family Robinson house and Tarzan. Of course, Swiss Family Robinson was a movie. Wait, now I'm confused.

I just saw a review of a new documentary called (I think) "Dream on You Silly Dreamers" which is about Disney turning to computer animation and apparently gutting their team. It sounded interesting.
HK? know anything about this? Or will they kill you if you talk?

It's called "Dream On, Silly Dreamer", and it was made by a couple of friends of mine. Basically, after the last traditionally animated film (Home on the Range) wrapped production, the company laid off about 1,000 people. The guys who made this film got some of their laid off former co-workers to sit in front of a camera and tell their stories about why they always wanted to work for Disney, and how their dream of it never matched the reality of the workplace. They also talk pretty openly about the individual greed that helped bring the whole thing crashing down.
It's a bit fluffy, but I was intriuged to hear some of the stories told. I knew or had met almost all of the people interviewed. The DVD apparently has lots of additional material. I'll pick it up. It's an interesting view of the artist's pov of the whole rise and fall of the second golden age of Disney Feature Animation.

The man who is tiling my bathrooms just got laid off at Disneyland where he has been doing plaster work on the Finding Nemo ride. It's scheduled to reopen in June.

It was still (ridiculously) scheduled for April when I was working on it. Glad they moved it to a somewhat more sane release.
It should be pretty cool. I'll go see it.
