OK, OK - Time for some videogame reviews.
This weeks illegal download: Prey
A first-person shooter in the tradition of Doom 3 and Halo.
You play a restless Native American facing a dead-end life on the reservation. Your girlfriend won't move away with you, your grandfather rambles on about the 'Old Ways' and you work in a casino that consists of 4 video poker machines and a crappy jukebox.
Luckily, just as you finish whooping some drunk redneck ass an alien spaceship sucks you, your girlfriend, your grandfather AND the bar you drove in on into it's gaping maw.
You awake in darkness, strapped to a carbonite block and being carried along via an overhead track. You pass through the queasy bowels of the massive ship, steadily making your way to who-knows-where. those screams in the distance don't sound promising.
Suddenly a figure leaps onto a nearby platform and sabotages the track! You fall from your slab into the darkness...
The rest of the game is pretty much blowing shit up.
Since you're an Indian you can 'Spirit Walk' through force fields to scout ahead and unlock pesky doors. You can also 'Spirit Shoot' enemies with your 'Spirit Bow and Arrows'.
The quirk of this game is being able to change the gravity in a rom by shooting triggers in the walls, which then become the floor, providing new obstacles and doorways to scurry through and around.
All in all a solid FPS. Not too difficult but not too easy. I screamed through it in about 20 hours. Hard-Core gamers could probably do it in 6 (I explore a lot). One nice thing - YOU DON'T DIE! When your health falls you go to the 'Spirit World' where you 'Spirit Shoot' flying health buckets...err...I mean 'Evil Spirits', before being dumped unceremoniously back into the fray.
Buy it if you're rich, steal it if you're poor.
