Yet more Leung Siu-lung research. Yeah, I watch these for work. srsly.
So this is an early Jackie Chan film that came out right when he was hitting on his whole Kung Fu comedy schtick - same year as Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. But this was not a comedy. It's a classic costume-period wuxia. Chan has Spock eyebrows and has a rep as the fastest fist in the wulin. The main hero is actually James Tien, who later would play second to all the major Kung Fu stars, or villains. Leung plays a deaf super kicker, mostly for comic relief, and yes, he grabs more groins. I'm so glad he didn't grab me. It's like he grabs groins in every friggin film. The Trump of Kung Fu flicks? Different kind of grabbing.
Anyway, I saw Mag Bods way back in the day and totally forgot it. It's a very forgettable film. Both Jackie and Leung deliver some excellent fight choreo as is their ilk but it pales in comparison to what they'll do later. The two notable things about this movie however are #1. it was the first 3D HK movie, so a lot of weapons, fists and feet fly at you and #2. it steals a soundtrack from a Hollywood movie that came out the year prior, as many of these old KF films do. That movie was Star Wars.
