Best Arcade Game

I thought I'd start the ball rolling.

I think Tempest took the most of my money, followed by Centipede.

I thought I was awesom at Tempest until this girl showed me their were more levels beyond the blue levels. A lot more. I don't think I played after that discovery.

I barely remember that game. But it sounds like it's for wussy's

Now, Burgertime. That was a game. I spent many valuable study hours trying to get the hamburger pieces to run under the buns so I could score big points.

Burgertime was great! So was Jungle King, despite now laughably bad graphics. I also really liked Elevator Action, with it's kind of Spy vs. Spy graphics. I was never very good at the flying and shooting games, but I did like Zaxxon, which I think was the first one with the 3/4 perspective view. Cole and I worked with a guy at CWLP who owned a Tank Battle game. That was good, but I never got very good at it. And that really early game, I think called Missile Command, where you tried to keep your cities from being destroyed. It had the big trackball and you always beat the crap out of your hand.

Ahh Qbert!

Now there was a game!

Not only was the playing field a psychedelic Escher-esque geometric head trip, but the obect of the game was to change the colors as you moved around!

You were chased by amorphous blobs and hissing snakes. Leaping off the board sent you to a screaming death into the coin-box! It even made a thunk down there when you hit!

And who could forget the inspiring 1983 Saturday-Morning cartoon? Err...let's just try shall we?

I have many memories of ED beating the crap out of Qbert playing by sense of smell. That game required some weird understanding of dimensions, sort of like what you need to be able to solve rubik's cubes blindfolded, and only the twisted mind of ED could master it. He'd play it nonchalantly, paying more attention to sipping his soda in his other hand. I remember him once playhing at some casino because there was some sort of prize involved and him doing it just to get the prize because it was so easy for him. Anyway, it totally put me off videogames. It just wasn't fun getting served in some game that I couldn't even begin to understand. Frankly, I never got past Asteroids.
