An "underdog makes good" story a la Breaking Away, Hoosiers, and countless others. Done fairly well - who know Drew Barrymore could direct? You wouldn't guess from her acting... I thought Kristen Wiig was particularly good in a straight dramatic role. Also a mother/daughter battle/reconciliation movie. Funny that I watched it on Mother's Day.
