Took my son to see it this afternoon. It's a bit dark. All the monsters are emotional children (but I think that's the point). Max has to figure out how make everything right. Jonez did an amazing job bringing the look of the book to life. You can get a bit distracted if you try to figure out the technical aspects of making the film, but it's also easy to forget all that and get immersed in the fantasy. We went to a matinee and there were tons of kids in the audience, but I don't think it's really a movie that kids will enjoy. That said, I enjoyed it for the most part, although there's something that feels formulaic about soundtracks and "independent" movies. Think "Juno", "Away We Go". I'm not sure what it is, but I hope we break out of this trend soon. I'd like to see a movie with an awesome, breakout, new score....

Totally spoiled the book. Another classic defiled. I felt really cheated that Max's room didn't transform into the jungle. But the puppets were awesome. The Wild Things were great, but far, far away from Sendak's original. I totally feel ya on the soundtrack, tg.

T laughed a lot.
