Carrie Fisher’s final film. It’s a sweet last performance as Carrie plays a good wise witch. She steals the show.

The story is uneven, an Alice through the looking glass-esque tale where a young girl falls into an alternate world. It’s a coming of age story, but the metaphor gets muddled. At first there’s a major sexual theme - first kiss, loss of innocence, literally taking a bite of an apple, a lineup or teen models in stiletto heels and bikinis, but then it shifts to dysfunctional marriage and neglectful parents and then ends on a sisterhood parable. Ultimately the fantasy elements, which were pleasantly depicted, doesn’t really go anywhere.

Rita Ora is the villainess, dressed in a shiny black teddy miniskirt and much to DM’s elation, wielding a broadsword. Rita and Carrie are great. Carrie, with a redhead wig, had a few Jenn B vibes. The young ingénue  Kiera is good. The story just angles at points and the visuals, although engaging, aren’t enough to carry it.

My understanding is that Carrie completed her scene and passed soon after. But the post prod went awry after Covid. Perhaps both factors tie into its disjointedness. It’s shot in Italy so the location is some old walled city.

Not D00M recommended unless your a fan of Carrie. I could a swore there was a trailer posted but it didn’t come up on a search and a review of this years trailer posts yielded nothing. It’s in here somewhere, I believe, it’s jist hiding.
