Angels and Demons
#1
It's that time of year when I return to work.

I'm going to be building parts of the Vatican . I'm going to be building this in the same spot we built Ape City for Planet of the Apes. Although that doesn't start until next week. Tomorrow, I head out to Hollywood Park Racetrack where they are going to be building Red Square. Ah, movie making.

It's going to be directed by Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks. Fun facts will be posted as they occur.

And this is how well the film crew is being received: Angels and Demons Story

The churches mentioned in the story, the della Vittoria and the della Popolo are the churches my crew is building.

So, they fired me. At least they give me gifts, too. Here's the trailer. My set is the one with the priest hanging in the middle of it towards the end.

They fired you for hanging a priest?

What gifts did you get?

They are so picky those producers.

I got the hat and shirt with Logo. Ron Howard gave me a nice hoody with logo. Tom Hanks gave me a solar powered and human powered radio, plus a handset that I can plug into my cel phone. At least the cards said they were from them.

It must be getting close to the release date because the Pope is planning his "Angels and Demons" boycott. Doesn't he have better things to do like tell kids in Africa that condoms help spread aids?

Quote:ROME (Hollywood Reporter) – The Vatican might be gearing up for an official call for a boycott of "Angels & Demons," Ron Howard's big-budget follow-up to "The Da Vinci Code."

Avvenire, the Vatican's official newspaper, ran a story in Friday's edition noting that the Church "cannot approve" of such a problematic film. The Turin daily La Stampa, meanwhile, said the Vatican would soon call for a boycott of the film, though the same article also quoted Archbishop Velasio De Paolis, who warned against a "boomerang effect" that could call attention to the film and eventually make it more popular.

The Vatican press office declined comment on the reports when contacted.

Producers requested permission from Church officials to film parts of "Angels & Demons" in the Vatican, but were denied.

Scores of Church officials called for a boycott of "The Da Vinci Code" when it was released in 2006, but that had little effect on the popularity of the thriller, which is based on the best-selling novel by Dan Brown. The film earned an estimated $760 million in worldwide box-office receipts.

"Angels & Demons" features many of the same characters as "The Da Vinci Code," but the story itself takes place before the events portrayed in the earlier film. The film is set to open worldwide May 15.

I know. I should review this in the DVD section, but this section is already here.

What can I say? Dull. Very Dull. Yawn. I saw my sets but I guess somebody else built them because my name didn't make the credits. It's all about the credits, baby.

The story was stupid. There was a lot of actering going on. We all knew the bad guy from Frame 1 even if we hadn't read the book or screenplay.

In a weird way, the film didn't want to be watched. At first, the DVD wouldn't load. But then it kicked in. Since dinner was being prepared, I made tQ watch the making of video. It turns Alan Cameron actually built and painted everything. Pretty good for an old English Production Designer. After that, I hit the play main movie button and nothing happened except black screen and then a still image of Tom Hanks. I did this three or four times with the same result from all different menus. I eventually just went to the scenes list and started from the second scene in. If there was something in the first scene that was important, we missed it. Which could be the theme for the whole movie, Miss it. I can't wait for the third film in the trilogy to not watch.

The plot was made of swiss cheese. Why were the brands in English? Why would anyone buy the story of the cardinals dying in the fire in the della Popollo if they were all supposed to be in conclave at the Vatican?

Would have been better if they added scenes with the Pope-mobile and more high-tech in the Pope-cave.

There was a wonderful line near the end, something like:

"He's alive! He sacrificed himself for all of us!"

Isn't that an oxymoron? Like a kamikaze ace?
