A friend stars in this - Alfred Hsing. He was a local wushu champ who went into stunt work. Here he has only one line in Chinese but his role is profound.

Tbis is a beautiful film, an existential tale of one man’s life on the western frontier. It’s more of an immersive mood, the timeless forest, the fleeting lives of humans, the majesty of nature. I really liked how the POC characters are represented - all small roles yet impactful and telling. It’s a ghost story in a way, a man haunted by his past, not so much what he did but what he witnessed just trying to get by. There’s not too much dialog and no fights (although some violent scenes). Truly moving. A slow and deep burn to mournful violins.

And the dog looks a bit like Yuki.

D00M recommmeded.
