I am living this film.
Lavish cinema from Chen Kaige. The sets and costumes are stunning, shot with sweeping swirling camerawork. And the cat is great, although sometimes undermined by cgi that is too cartoonish. But still, this cat can give the bunny from MP&tHG and run for its money. It gets long winded by the end - the explanation for it all is too drawn out, but before that there are some visionary and indulgent scenes with lovely color schemes. There’s some sword brandishing but no actual sword fights.
