Uprooted by Naomi Novak

It's been a long time since I found a book I just spent the day reading and this was it. It was just me, this book, and the couch all day.

Novak is best known for her Termaire books about dragons during the Napoleonic wars. This book is a stand alone. It tells the story of the battle between the Kingdom of Polynya and the Wood, think of the Murkwood only more deadly.

It has a lot of familiar tropes but it gives them a fresh twist. The young girl taken in to be trained by a foreboding magic user who is called the Dragon. The intrigues of court succession. Magic. It was all really fun.

At the end it got a bit rushed but the first 2/3 were really good as Agnieska and the Dragon form their relationship The final bit at as they come to grips with the Wood were moving. It's just this weird battle in the last area that felt kind of rushed. But that is a minor quibble.

The book was good and I finished it in a day.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
