Dr. Lao. Man, that's a great movie. Too bad it's outrageously whitewashed and probably totally unwatchable for that reason now (but the Trumpagarchy will fix that). Nevertheless, I gotta give ya props for that callback, cf.
The cop/junkie sense8s are my least favorite characters. They feel a hackneyed, unoriginal compared to the rest of the sense8s.
Honestly all that sticks out for me about the Xmas special now was the big orgy, the JCVD bus, the telenovela star's...oh wait, that's a spoiler, nevermind...and City Lights Bookstore. I'm a little worried that now that the sense8s are all in tune, it won't be as surreal.

I give it a giant meh. I was very disinterested. Hey look, we are a group of people who can interact via our minds with other people. And the big thing that bothers me is how do these people that are interacting mind to mind interact with the physical world? For instance how is it possible, using the laws of the show for the Indian Girl to have a snowball fight with East Berlin boy when only one of them is in Berlin and the other is in Portofino?
And why was there only one Wachowski sibling involved with the production of the Christmas episode?
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Cancelled.
I've been trying to catch the rest of this but my antique appletv keeps crashing. Now I'm not sure I'll bother with it.

TThe finale was released on Netflix so I decided to start in on Season 2 after all, knowing that there will be closure.
It's not as good. There isn't as many big global scenes, which detracts heavily. And now that the sensates are all in tune, and that there are other clusters, it's hard to tell who is really there and who is some sort of sensate mind trick. It's still has its moments. It still gets preachy in that Wachowski way. It still celebrates diversity and struggles to deliver its message of unity as in 'we are all one'. But most of all, in the era of 45, it all feels dated, like a fantasy from yesteryear, something no longer relevant because these battles have fallen to the backburner with all of the other fires 45 has ignited.
I'm about halfway through S2. I'll probably see it through.

Sunday binge. My excuse is I need to comfort the cat. But the cat bailed and is napping in her cat perch.
S2 remains less impressive than S1. The cinematic scope is smaller. Even a scene set at the San Paulo pride parade doesn’t seem as big. And warning to the DOOM Dino, S2 is much gayer. But I must confess that it’s those outing scenes that have the most emotional impact. Lito’s dearation at Pride, Nomi’s toast to her sis, the anthemic use of What’s Going On (Melissa’s version of course) - all gave me the feels. Its just refreshing to see, especially now. It’s sense of humor is still strong, and the fight scenes have got better. And it’s San Franciscaness remains awesome.
Could be trimmed tho. It’s longwinded. Way too heavy on the dramatic slow-mos & musical interludes. Still engaged, but not fully. Half watching while puttering around on a lazy Sunday.

Finished S2. The season finale had a major wth moment that wasn’t overly satisfying.
Twas a pleasant Sunday binge nonetheless. No food poisoning, no festival-cancelling flu, no tournament, no funerals or memorials, no filming schedule - just a mellow day at the bungalow, tending to our injured cat.
Saving the final finale for later.

Like Season 2, the finale was a tad long-winded and self indulgent. The finale was relatively satisfying although confusing because there were too many characters and it was hard to tell who was where and when with the sense8 visions. But the payout was sweet, albeit predictable. Love conquers all. The Disney death was well played, although the save was like, srsly? The finale scene got me a bit misty, even though it was super preachy and heavy handedly so. Just before the credits rolled, it said 'for the fans' then the credits rolled over production scenes all over the world I wish the cast luck in future roles. It was a special series for sure, but Season 2 could've been edited in half and still carried the same emotional weight.
