So, crazy man tries to ease the crisis between Jews and Palestinians in Israel by teaching 11 year olds how to ballroom dance. And sort of succeeds.
Pierre left Jaffa when he was 4 during what the Paelstinians call the Nabka or Catastrophe. The Jew refer to it as Independence Day. He spent the intervening years since 1948 being a professional dancer. He has come back to Jaffa, which is south of Tel Aviv to help ease the tensions by trying to reduce the distrust between young Israeli Jews and young Palestinians by making them dance together. He chooses a five schools and will teach the kids to dance only on the condition that the Jews and Palestinians at some point have to dance together.
Some schools don't make it. The kids have all the prejudices of their parents plus the added benefit of being at the age where you think the opposite sex is icky. This is all set against the tension of the conflicts going on in Israel.
It was a really moving film to watch. Some children have especially heart breaking stories. One girls mother simply needs to be put down for her views. There is a lot of humor and sadness.
No sword fights. Didn't miss them.
