Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds @ The Warfield 07/07/14
#1
I have a love/hate relationship with The Warfield. I've seen so many great shows here but the sound kinda sucks, the upstairs seats are cramp inducing and waiting in line to get in is a road show of Market Street regulars.

This venue has gotten doubly weird since they partnered with Samsung. If you have a Samsung phone you can download an app and scan a poster for prizes. Last night, my wife scanned the poster and was allowed in before everyone else in line.I mean, yes, awesome for me because while I arrived late we had the best 2nd tier GA area in the venue, but only because she had subscribed to the right phone provider. Weird.

When I scanned my phone I got $10 off my next food/drink order. Suck it iphone owners!

The opening act was a guitarist and vocalist (Mark Lanegan). They were amazing. I ran out to buy a CD but they had nothing for sale. Opening band with no merch? Is this the twilight zone?

Nick opened with "Tupelo" and barreled through a string of dark, loud rocking hymns. He touched hands with the chosen in the front row and preached a gospel of obscenities and vile acts.

I chatted with the guy next to me who was attending with a woman and a nine year old kid. At one point the woman tried to cover the ears of the child but he batted them away, rapt in the performance of Mr. Cave. He was fun to talk to and said his band "Blackout" opened for the Psychedelic Furs in 1980. Citation needed.

Anyway, fun show, eardrums still recovering.
