Watched the Monterey ep just to see how many beaches I could recognize. I dunno man. I’ve never seen pods of dolphins or orcas like that. Blue whales? Get outta here. Sure, that’s all out there in the bay but only if you have a good drone camera.
The Ano Nuevo elephant seal scene were good. Actually, all the shots were spectacular - that’s just how animal docs are shot nowadays. The stories are the same… oooh nasty predator eats cute prey… oh how the wildlife struggle… oh cute weener seal… oooh triply jellyfish.
The cgi animated plankton felt out of place. The Golden Gate Bridge submerged in fog seemed beyond the reach of the sanctuary but it was some nice footage so we’ll let that pass.
Barack’s narration was tepid. I’m accustomed to his inspirational speeches and these fell a bit flat by comparison, like he phones them in.
All in all, not bad as nature docs go. It’s not transcendent, but it makes it’s points. Not D00M recc-ed but you could do a lot worse.
