Neko Case @ Rio Theatre - 2021.08.26
#1
I got these tickets awhile ago, pre-delta-variant. I was hesitant to go, but they required proof of vax and also required masks. There were signs everywhere as well as a pre-show announcement, "NO CELL PHONES, NO RECORDING OF ANY KIND" and most everyone honored that, except for the dbag standing in front of me. No one from security bother him and he kept shooting video on and off during the show. When there's just one guy doing it and it's really obvious, it's a bit annoying...

It was really great to see a show with a band. It was Neko, two men on guitars, and a woman on bass (tho everyone traded instruments, and there was a piano in there as well). No drums, just the occasional shakers and tambourine. Neko has the most powerful voice and compliments it with these amazing harmonies, sometimes 4-part harmonies. She's also one of the few to rock the tenor guitar. Her songs don't follow normal structures and often meander. She played some covers, including her version of "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth" by Sparks. She played some hits, but didn't play "Deep Red Bells" or "This Tornado Loves You". All in all, a great show in a nice venue, well suited to that performance. I really want this covid thing to be over. I really miss shows like this.

Cool!

I still haven't mustered the courage to go to any indoor events yet.

Now I'm thinking about booster shots. My 5G reception is getting static.
