The Quartet
#1
A very sweet film about old opera stars and musicians retiring in a home as majestic as Downton Abbey. No sword fights, bollywood dances, fiery gingers or blood spitting, but I liked it anyway. HP factor 2 (Dumbledore #2 & McGonagall). Billy Connelly does his best John Cleese, and this film would have been so much awesomer if that part had gone to Cleese, especially as there's a cameo by Manuel from Fawlty Towers, and Cleese could have blown that character into epic hilarity. What is amazing about this film is the soundtrack. When you realize that everyone is actually playing and singing their parts and hear their virtuosity in their autumn years, the precision - especially with the trumpeteer and clarinetist - it's very impressive. It's all about the credit roll. And getting to hear Maggie say 'fuck' like she means it.
