I will be in town photographing my mother's Steinbeck collection over T-Giving. (that is a whole different topic entirely) But I am up for getting together if everyone is amenable. I could bring Shaolin Training for the Upcoming Apocalypse.

Without having consulted Lady Cranefly, I will make a daring assumption and offer to host.
Everyone who comes will get a tomato.
Caveat Emptor: We still have the old 26" non-hi-def TV (but it's over a foot deep!). So you may want to factor that into any choice of host.

Been meaning to set a day and time, finally getting around to it.
This is not meant to compete with the tentative Pre End of the World Gathering up near the north end of the monopole, but is meant to be in addition to.
The day and time are likely adjustable, but this is my first offering.

Location: the Platypus Plateau in the Mountain View sinkhole.

I figure that more details are in order for our gathering.

(1) I'll order pizzas along about 6, if not before, depending on people's preferences.
(2) Those of us here by, say, 6:15, will decide on a movie and start watching it. If some people come late, we can hit pause and fill you in on all the grisly deaths and sexuendos that have taken place.
(3) At the end of the movie, we'll break apart into focus groups of 3 to discuss various aspects of the movie, such as theme, plot, characters, humor or lack thereof, swordfights, Indian dance numbers, and the like. We'll try to limit this to a half hour.
(4) We'll regroup and discuss our findings together. To keep this from getting unruly, if you have something to say, you need to hold up your hand and wait to be called upon before speaking. Again, let's limit this to a half hour.
(5) We'll then rewatch the movie with commentary turned on. If there is no commentary track, we ourselves will provide it. Again, let's enforce the holding up your hand to talk rule to keep things from getting out of hand.
(6) Once we've rewatched the movie, we'll take a potty break. Ten minutes tops. A stopwatch will be in force.
(7) Next we'll decide on a second movie and start watching it, and steps 3 through 6 will play out once more.
(8) After a second potty break, we'll have a talent show. Anyone can give a performance of up to ten minutes. We'll draw names out of a hat to determine the order. I've been working on my tapdancing, but can't say yet whether it's ready for primetime. I might have to fall back on my old standby of mammal impressions.
(9) Once everyone has had a chance to demonstrate their talent, we'll recite the secret Doom oath and then adjourn to our private haunts.

Anyway, that's the gist of the plan. Let me know if you feel any adjustments to it are warranted.

P.S. If worst comes to worst and no one is able to make it, that's fine. I have a fallback plan. I'll just watch Ichi the Killer starting at 6 and continuing over and over again until 3 in the morning, with breaks in between during which I'll split my multiple personalities into focus groups of 3 and do pretty much all the steps above by myself -- though I hate dancing alone.
