The Dervish House by Ian McDonald
#1
It seems I read too many books by authors whose first name is Ian and I'm starting to get them confused. It also hurts they are also all Scottish authors. Knock it off, Scotts. Think up some new first names for your writers.

This is the Ian who writes SF set not too far into our own history. He covered India and Brazil in his earlier novels and now sets his sights on Turkey in his new book.

I read "River of Gods" which was about India and I spent most of the journey trying to figure out what the hell was going on and which character was which. I don't think I cared at the end what happened.

But his next book was about Istanbul and I kind of wanted to see what he would do with that setting. I was not disappointed. He talks about Terrorist attacks, Nano assaults and the quest for hidden Gods in the new mid 21st century. His story focuses on six main characters over the course of a week. They all intertwine nicely. He gets to talk about religion. He gets to talk about technology. He even spends a little time on International Finance. It's quite the stew of a book. I say read it.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
