Sisu - thatguy - 12-07-2025

i saw the trailer for the new one in the theater, so when I saw that the first one was available (in multiple places) I watched on Tubi, with ads.

They tell you at the beginning, and once, later in the film that “sisu” is an untranslatable finnish word that describes a sort of super-power state when you are deprived of everything. The story is about this guy that was fighting Russians during WW2. His entire family was killed and he went on a rampage and the Finnish army couldn’t control him, so he became an army of one. Flashforward to now, and he’s an old prospector working the fields with his dog and his horse, alone in a very beautiful landscape…its like a desert, but green. He finds the motherlode, packs up his haul and heads to civilization to cash in.

Meanwhile, the Nazis are losing and are destroying everything in their wake as they exit. The prospector crosses paths with a band of Nazis and hilarity ensues. I think this is where we get the phrase “Finnish him!” (See trailer below)

It’s very Tarrantino-esque. The prospector doesn’t say anything until the very last scene.

Recommended…

RE: Sisu - Drunk Monk - 12-07-2025

Been meaning to catch this one.

By Tarantino-esque, do you mean it dumps on Paul Dano?

Seen

Sanguineous. Several exploding people. And I’m not sure you could actually stab through someone’s head like that. Some fresh stuff. I really liked seeing brutal killings of nazis. The pulling scrapnel scene was harsh and hard to believe. Same with the hanging prevention method. Entertaining if you like that sort of thing. Everybody is so dirty all the time. How hard is it to wash your face, especially when it’s covered with blood?

D00M recommended but only if you like ultravi. I mean really like it.

I enjoyed it. Over the top.

RE: Sisu - Drunk Monk - 02-24-2026

Well, we both enjoy ultravi... It's real horrorshow. Pass the moloko+...

I think both Sisu 1 and 2 are on Netflix at the moment. I resisted watching them with The Queen.

We just let go of Netflix.

Good call. I watched it when I didn't think Stacy might walk in.

Watched Road to Revenge on Netflix.

Sisu is going to his old homestead which is in the territory that has been annexed by the USSR. His homecoming is sad as his family are all gone. He packs up the home to take back to Finland. While he is doing this, the Soviets, who are tracking him, go to the solder (now in prison) who killed Sisu's family and essentially started him on his warpath, saying they if he succeeds in stopping what he started, he can be released from prison a rich man.

Hilarity ensues.

I'm still struck by the Tarantino-esqueness of these. I didn't remember saying it in my previous review, but it stuck in my mind while watching this one. It's like Grindhouse. If there was an amputee soldier with a machine gun for a prosthetic leg, it wouldn't be out of place in this film.

I laughed a few times, said "oh shit" a few. Good fun if you're in the mood for some over the top ultra vi.

I was all set dot watch this on Netflix a few nights ago but it was blocked. I'm piggybacking on Tara's sub, and she has the cheapest level which has commercials and certain content like this blocked unless you upscale your sub.

And I disdain the notion of Tarantino-esque. All Tarantino did was rip-off a lot of Asian cinema that few had seen. He's the king of cinematic poachers.

Agreed...and Grindhouse/Deathproof was an homage/ripoff of grindhouse movies, but it's probably what more people have seen and easier to describe and get the point across.
