Kurukshetra - Drunk Monk - 10-12-2025 (10-01-2025, 01:31 AM)Drunk Monk Wrote: This is an 18 20+ min episodes series about the great battle of the Mahabharata. This first ep was set up and each ep will center on one of 18 warrior journeys of the epic. It’s cgi animation with a nod to the distinctive style of Indian divine art, which seems a bit dated at first, but by the end of the first ep, i was settling into it. I know the tale relatively well from watching films and tv retellings and reading chunks of it. But the first ep was a lot to follow - i don’t remember all the names of the supporting heroes & villains and to just focus on the war drops us towards the end of a gargantuan epic, so there’s a ton of backstory which isnt readily explained. Half the eps have dropped; the remainder is coming soon. Not sure if I’m good for all 18 eps but I thin e2 is the Bhagavad Gita so I want to see that. Not D00M recommended unless you know the Mahabharata RE: Kurukshetra - Drunk Monk - 10-18-2025 The take on the Bhagavad Gita was underwhelming. But then out came a magic chakra and things started rolling. I’m 4 eps deep and loving it. It’s so insanely epic. The magic is absurd and awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed the retelling of Bhishm in ep 3. It’s like where Tolkien stole the idea for Eowyn & the Nazgûl King, but better because of the bed of arrows. I’m into this show now. RE: Kurukshetra - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2025 One more ep to go in the first drop. The next batch drop will be the rest of the episodes. It’s still crazy over-the-top epic, as it should be for one of the greatest tales in the world. The godlike powers of the heroes and villains are awesome. Shoot one arrow, crackling with green lightning, and it multiplies into dozens of arrows midflight that explode when they hit. Magic prana blasts - weather control, fire breathing, so much magic. So many battles. The battlefield formation strategies remind me of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Krishna is making a lot more sense to me symbolically. His role has always been about faith but watching this, I’m getting that on a deeper level. I love when he goes full deity with a paisley swirling halo and spinning a glowing magic chakra on his fingertip like a master pizza chef twirling dough. The rules of war are fascinating. And the notion of warrior’s honor is so critical to the morality play. Great stuff. Lessons on karma and dharma woven within the action of the biggest medieval battle ever. This is unlocking another aspect of Indian culture for me that beautifully poetic. RE: Kurukshetra - Drunk Monk - 11-09-2025 Seen Enjoyed it thoroughly. It’s the definition of an epic tale, ingeniously told from the climactic battle with flashbacks to give context. It made Baahubali make a lot more sense as this story is a foundation of Indian culture. But it might be a bit much for the unintitated. If you just want a taste, skip to the final ep, where Krishn sums it all up and his observations ring true today. Not particularly D00M recommended - it’s deep India which might be too spicy for your palettes. |
