The Penguin (2024) - Greg - 09-23-2024

I spent most of the show trying to recognize Colin Ferrel under all that make-up. You can't. As some people have pointed out, The Penguin is almost the DC version of the Sopranos complete with over protective mother.

In the first episode, Oswald kills his boss and then has to dump the body. He kidnap/hires a kid trying to rob his car. Meanwhile his business is being rolled up by his bosses. And it's not quite believed that Oswald doesn't know what happened to his boss. There is a good twist at the end that will propel future episodes. A bit dark and humorless but I will watch more.

Ep02 This show had more action. There was a nice heist sequence. But I'm not really feeling it for this show. Everyone is deplorable. There is no one to root for. Colin Farrell continues to do a great job being the Penguin but it's all sort of one note.

I will continue to watch to see if things improve.

I just finished it. No sign of the caped crusader anywhere. No wacky gadgets. Just slow drama, but I enjoyed it. I'm impressed by Colin Farrell's makeup. And his performance is so not Colin Farrell. Very De Niro or Brando. Big surprise at the end.

Recommended, but this is not a super hero/villain show.
