Kim Harrison, Dead Witch Walking - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-09-2007

OK, me likey. Back-story: A man-made plague gets loose, wipes out quite a bit of humanity, let's say a few out of every 10 people, and when the dust settles, humanity finds out that about half of the people left alive are in fact not humans, but elder creatures that have been "passing" as human: Spites, ogres, witches, were-folk, vampires, etc.. As non-humans, they were immune.

Since they kept civilization going during humanity's virus problem, and humanity is pretty weak from their recent self-decimation, both parties decide to just try to get along, but neither side much likes or trusts each other. The non-humans keep to themselves in segregated slums/suburbs/ghettos and govern themselves.

Our hero is a witch and soon-to-be former cop in the Cincinatti non-human ghetto...

puttng it on my list - The Queen - 07-10-2007

Thanks - sounds like something right up my alley! Putting it on my list and having the libarary send it to me.

- Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-10-2007

De nada, Your Majesty. My friend who sent this one is now sending the remaining books of the series. The first one was a lot of fun. Lemme know what you think.

Not at the library - The Queen - 07-12-2007

They don't have that one, either at my local branch or on a list of available books to send , but I was able to fine "For A Few Demons More," so I'll let you know how that goes.

- Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-14-2007

That looks like it is pretty far along in the series. The second book is The Good, The Bad, and the Undead. My "dealer" just brought me the rest of the series.

I hate reading things out of order - The Queen - 07-15-2007

Guess I need to make a trip to the used book store, see if I can find thes there.

If you have no joy down there, you can e-mail these fine folks.

Having just read #2, it is clear that they must be read in order. Goddam story arc!

Something to look forward to - The Queen - 07-18-2007

I've returned For a Few Demons More to the library, unread. I have a few flights coming up (to/from Boston and to/from Dallas), so I'm thinking about purchasing and downloading the entire series from e-reader.com. Can't beat the convenient packaging for travel. :-)

Interweb to the rescue!

Loving it - The Queen - 08-22-2007

Finished Dead Witch Walking and am nearly done with The Good, the Bad and the Undead. And I still love the taste of tomatoes: wonder what that means?

I'm not a Clint Eastwood afficianado, so aside from convenience, do you know if there's any relevance to almost all of the titles being take-offs of Clint movie titles? Which one is third, A Fistful of Charms or Every Which Way but Dead?

- Dr. Ivor Yeti - 08-22-2007

No relevence in the titles, can't remember which is first, but if you give me some hint of the plot from the back of the books, I can probably tell ya. I think "Charms" is the most recent...

The back of the book is a piece of metal - The Queen - 08-23-2007

There is no back to the book... it's a bunch of 1s and 0s in my PDA.
I do get to see the cover art when I open the file, but no back page blurb.

Never mind though - I just checked amazon.com and they very kindly list the order for me.

1. Dead Witch Walking
2. The Good, the Bad and the Undead
3. Every Which Way But Dead
4. A Fistful of Charms
5. For a Few Demons More
6. (coming in Feb 2008) The Outlaw Demon Wails

Kim Harrison owes Eastwood - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 08-23-2007

Yes, they are all Eastwood films with no rhyme or reason. Tschuss.

The Outlaw Demon Wails - The Queen - 05-20-2008

The latest in this series. Soap opera central -- her true father's identity and mother's break-with-reality issues are finally revealed/resolved, along with that pesky "Love you but I"m not gay" problem she's been having with her vampire roommate.

Decent reading-candy for the airplane.
