Saltburn - Drunk Monk - 01-21-2024

An awkward freshman gets the attention of a popular rich kid at Oxford and is invited to spend the summer at the family mansion. But things are not as they seem. It’s a decent thriller with some kinky sexual stuff that many find edgy (working on Folsom st made me quite jaded when it comes to kinky sex so I was unfazed). Lots of man butt including a remarkable single shot full nekkid dance scene with all man bits on display. The twist was good and carried out with diabolical closure. There’s a hedge maze, so you know something will go down in the hedge maze - whenever there’s a hedge maze, it’s a critical plot element.

Rosamund Pike nails her performance. I liked Sir James and Venetia too. Ollie is suitably creepy. Some of the reviews I heard made me think this was going to be deeply disturbing and I can see why it might affect some but it wasn’t for me.

I neither recommend or deny this for D00M. I’ll just say that if you’re curious, this film is well made.

From the trailer and the buzz, I got the sense that this was about a weird rich family that a young freshmen gets sucked into, but it's different than what the trailer implies...it's a pretty straightforward story. Acted well. Enjoyed it, tho it was a bit long.

There's some edgy bits, but again I'm not sure what all the buzz was about.

RE: Saltburn - King Bob - 08-12-2024

My niece and my nephew's wife were both talking about this and I think they enjoyed the edginess. Christina looked up the plot on Wikipedia and read it to me as we drove back from Tahoe, and it seemed like a fairly conventional thriller story, perhaps a bit like Talented Mr. Ripley, and the edgy bits read out loud from the synopsis made them laughable.
