Dracula (2020) - Greg - 02-20-2023 From Mark Gatiss and Stephan Moffat of Dr. Who and Sherlock fame comes the story of Dracula. You might know the story. And now there is this version. It's starts in a convent in Hungary where Jonathan Harker is telling his tale to two nuns, one of which acts very un-nun like. The story unfolds of Harker's journey to Dracula's castle where Count Dracula is finalizing the deal to buy an English estate. It gets creepy and bloody very quickly. I think one of my favorite moments comes right at the beginning when Harker tells his story. It involves a fly. So far so good I will say. It kind of dragged later on in the convent for some scenes, but there is a delicious denouement. There are only three episodes of ninety minutes each. We will be watching more. RE: Dracula (2020) - The Queen - 02-20-2023 Jonathan Harker. RE: Dracula (2020) - Greg - 02-21-2023 Him, too. RE: Dracula (2020) - Greg - 02-26-2023 Ep02 Aboard the ship Demeter. Two threads. One is Dracula playing chess with the Nun Van Helsing. The other is aboard ship as people are disappearing. It's sort of a murder mystery as they try to figure where everyone is going until they realize what is happening. My biggest caveat for the show was who was sailing the ship? Towards the end it's just the captain, a cook and the cabin boy. And it's a big ship. The staterooms are abnormally large as is the dining area for the passengers. It was all very strange but sort of involving. I'm continuing to enjoy especially because of the ending. Only one episode to go. RE: Dracula (2020) - Greg - 03-01-2023 Ep03 Well, that ended poorly. The third episode was kind of a mess. There was a lot going on and it didn't hold together very well. The show jumped around in the timelines and locations. There were plenty of new characters and I didn't quite buy their motivations. Then there was the ending that was a poor wrap up to the show. Two good episodes and one poor one. I would say just watch the first two, but the twist at the end of Ep02 really makes you want to continue. But don't. That way lies darkness. |
