Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 10-19-2021 I had little to no interest in seeing this until it was mentioned that Aaron Sorkin wrote and directed it. I'm in. Plus, it has DM's love, Nicole Kidman. RE: Movie Trailers - cranefly - 10-19-2021 Being the Ricardos (2021) by Aaron Sorkin She's ba-a-a-ck! Lucy is back! Icy and aloof as ever. Dammit! I now see that Greg posted this elsewhere... RE: Movie Trailers - Greg - 10-19-2021 Sure would have been nice for you to have seen this post over in amazon Prime. Dammit. I now see that Cranefly has already spotted his mistake. Which begs the question. Why do I proceed to make them? To maintain the direction of time. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 10-19-2021 Ha! Life is a circle. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Drunk Monk - 10-19-2021 I'm all in. I Love Lucy RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 10-19-2021 Whoopsy! I was about to share a story about crashing Luci's house in Woodside but it was actually Shirley Temple's house. Good thing I caught it before I made a fool of myself. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Drunk Monk - 10-19-2021 Good save. My gal Nicole would never play Shirley. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 11-10-2021 Trailer #2 RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Drunk Monk - 12-22-2021 Oscar contender. Sorkin remains a solid storyteller. The interweaving arcs are engaging throughout. It's beautifully executed on many levels (there's even a nice one-er). Bardem and JK Rowlings nail Arnez and Frawley despite looking nothing like them. They adopt their mannerisms, their posture, their essence - it's solid acting, not just impersonation. Arianda misses with Vance. Her chemistry is good, particularly with Frawley, but it's a miss. Then there's dear Nicole. She kills it. She vanishes into the role, only peeking out just enough to remind you it's indeed Nicole. She captures Lucy's spirit both on screen and off, nailing her voice and attitude, and the replays of the classic bits are entirely convincing. Brava! D00M recommended despite the lack of sword fights. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 12-23-2021 It's on the list. RE: Being the Ricardos (2021) - Greg - 12-27-2021 That was fine. Nothing I like better than ticking clock structure to keep the whole show moving. Okay, I thought the whole structure was a little rigid. And for a show about a comedy, it wasn't all that funny. And Sorkin can be really funny. So, I wasn't overwhelmed by it. I did enjoy the scenes involving Luck and Desi's first night together. It helped that on the drive home from Toga, that the Queen and I listened to a podcast about Lucille Ball's life called The Plot Thickens, so tQ and I knew all about Grandpa Fred and what that meant to Lucy |
