RIP Jon Hassell - King Bob - 06-28-2021

I was sad to see this obituary in the NY Times. I didn't realize he had started out along with Terry Riley.

I only have a few of his albums (they are hard to find used and expensive new), but there's some great music there. His album with Eno, 4th World: Possible Musics I think is his best. Power Spot also was good, with great cover art (it was on ECM, and they tend to have good design). I gave that album to DM once but I don't think he really went for it. Some of you might have heard him without knowing who it was on the Talking Heads' "Houses in Motion," which has a long solo of his heavily processed trumpet.
