La Fiancee de Dracula (2002) by Jean Rollin - cranefly - 06-10-2020 The French title has a better poetic flow, so I'm using it instead of Dracula's Fiancee. (In hindsight, I should have done the same for several others.) The forces of darkness are coming together as a potential fiancee for Dracula is groomed by crazed nuns (it's complicated). Whether Dracula ultimately accepts her is another matter, to be determined by his appearance or failure to appear at the rendezvous point (a very odd setting, which I won't spoil for you). It's sort of a groundhog day affair (not the movie, the spring-determinant). Meanwhile, a Van Helsing-like professor (with hypnotic powers) and his protege are slowly closing in. About those forces of darkness. Wow, there's an assortment. The scarlet She-Wolf, the sensuous Ogress, a dwarf jester and his vampire lover, several other notable characters, mostly women with vampiric leanings and wonderfully malfunctioning wardrobes. This is high camp, and highly inventive, with stunning visuals throughout, including castle ruins, shipwrecks, graveyards, catacombs, a bizarre nunnery... I was very pleasantly surprised, knowing Rollin was on dialysis at the time (later to get a kidney transplant), and expecting some quick throwaway flick. Caveat: This is an oddball film, right up my alley. But your mileage may vary. Note: This poster does not even show the fiancee (like I said, there's a cavalcade of women): ![]() P.S. There's one more film to go, but it's an early one and highly suspect. RE: La Fiancee de Dracula (2002) by Jean Rollin - Drunk Monk - 06-10-2020 Pardon your french. Dwarf jesters are the best. |
