Derry Girls - Greg - 12-30-2018
Funniest sitcom I've seen in years.
Set in 1992 Derry, Northern Ireland, Derry Girls follows a group of 16 year olds they navigate Catholic School an sectarian violence in Northern Ireland. Although there's not much sectarian violence.
Maybe there are a lot of Irish in-jokes in the plots and the accents are hard to comprehend, but there is something about this show that I find particularly enjoyable. I especially like the Grandfather and the Nun Headmaster.
Episode 4 which we saw last night had to do with the miracle of St. Mary's tears and a really handsome young priest who gets the girls hearts aflutter.

I enjoyed this a lot. I particularly liked that the girls are often awkward and embarrass themselves, and aren't all stylish and done up like in American shows. DM - good use of the Cranberries in the soundtrack that you might enjoy.

After a brief two years, Derry Girls returns for their third and final season. At least it returns in England. No idea when the final season comes to our shores.

They're back. Stupid and funny as ever. We are pacing this out because this will be the final season and there are only 6 episodes. We saw the first episode a week ago. Saw the second episode last night.
Ep01 The girls want to break into school to see if they have passed their final exams from the previous semester to see if they have advanced. Naturally things don't go according to plan. And there is the best cameo ever.
Ep 02 The girls decide to take part in the talent contest to raise money for disadvantaged children when they realize it will be televised. Meanwhile Erin's mother Mary decides she has had enough of doing everything for everyone in the house and goes on strike. There is a chance she is having an affair with the hot new plumber from Kildare.

I enjoyed this. Nice finale too. According to IMDB, there is some sort of special in addition to the episodes, but it's not on Netflix.

Ep03 The train ride to Portrush. It's amazing how much can happen on a simple train ride. The best character still is put upon Dad Jerry. Okay it's sister Michael who has some thoughts about soundproofing after a private phone call between a girl and her lover. So much fun. I'm pre-sad this is the final season and I only have three episodes left.

Ep04 Every episode is bittersweet. It is still really funny but I only have a few episodes left. In this one, the adults go to see a fortune teller while the girls and Jamie head across the border into Donegal. They need to get Sister Michael's dead aunt's house ready for a wake. The girls hope to be shagging some fine Irish farmers. Everything goes awry.

The older folk flash back to their youth in the 1990s while also attending a High School reunion. It was a very meta episode. Funny as always.
The best part was I learned this season goes 7 episodes not just six, so I have two left.

Sigh. We watched the last episode. It was an hour long and centered on the signing of the Good Friday agreement. It was very sad and very moving with a lot of laughs. I'm going to miss this not see more stories involving this group.
