RIP Harlan Ellison - Greg - 06-28-2018

Well, this is sad. No matter what you think of him, you have to admit he was a great writer. He wrote some of my favorite short stories. I couldn't get enough of his television commentaries.

But I did meet him at a convention. It was at the same time Gremlins came out. He hated Gremlins and warned us not to see it. He was there to talk about a screening of "The Demon with a Glass hand" which was an Outer Limits episode.

I had the temerity to ask a stupid question of him. He called me stupid.

In recent years, I have not read much of his stuff. But he was the bulwark of my late teens and early twenties

What was the question?

This is indeed, more sad news.  But it might be brightened by hearing your stupid question.   Come on.  I know you remember it.

The show was all set in this building. And I couldn't tell if it was the present day for the TV show or the future. So, I asked if it was the present.
Are you dumb?
As soon as I asked the questioned, I flashed on seeing the cars of the present time out the window.

Seemed like his well ran dry and he took up suing people to make a living. Yup, I liked his early stuff, but he seemed like an asshole with a chip on both shoulders. Classic “Little Man” syndrome.
