Record Store Day 04/22/17 - El Dingo - 04-23-2017 How have I never posted about this? RSD started in 2007, but I didn't start going till 2012. My first experience was at Amoeba in Berkeley and I was underwhelmed. The selection was minimal (about 100 titles, many of them 7" singles). It was mainly indie, live and 'demo' releases. The following year I went and the event had grown into 'limited' major-artist albums and box-sets. The last 3 years I have been going to 1234-Go! Records in Oakland. I don't buy a lot, just the stuff I'm interested in. This year's haul: Star Wars 10" (Main theme + Celebration March) The Beatles 7" (Strawberry Fields + Penny Lane) Sunny Day Real Estate "The Rising Tide" (Clear vinyl) Blade Runner - Vangelis OST (pic disc) Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson (white/Yellow vinyl) My nephew asked me to grab something called "Soul Assassins" but it was sold out when I was let in. I got there at 5:50AM and was 32nd in line (8:00 AM store opening). RE: Record Store Day 04/22/17 - King Bob - 04-24-2017 That explains the long line I saw when I drove by Streetlight Records just before they opened. |
