Bad Ass (2012) - Drunk Monk - 03-18-2017

Danny Trejo plays a struggling vet who beats up some skinheads and goes viral. Then there's a corrupt mayor (Ron Perlman) and a street gang pressuring the hood for some real estate deal. Sanguinosity ensues. Based on a true story. Only it ends in a bus duel and I don't remember that ever happening in LA.

Trejo is oddly charming in this. It's the first of a trilogy. I'll probably check out the next two too. Better than watching more Iron Fist.

Are you kidding me? Bus duels are all the rage.

Now I know what we can do after din din.

We could just go to Trejo's tacos. It's supposed to be quite the place.

Bad Ass 2: Bad Asses (2014) - Drunk Monk - 04-02-2017

Danny personally invited me to Trejo's tacos. He said the best thing they did was offer veg & gluten free options.

BA2 adds Danny Glover as a more crotchety older flatulent version of his Lethal Weapon role. It sort of works. Trejo is still playing himself, charming but bad ass when duty calls. The film is low budget and predictable, and it's really only Trejo's charisma that carries it.

On the last day of the Man at Arms shoot, Danny and I were headed back to our trailer, and he said out of nowhere that he thought the best line of the whole show was one I said in an earlier scene that day. It was kind of him as I was struggling the most on the last day due to fatigue and unfamiliarity with the topics. I was grateful for his generosity there. Danny is just so bad ass.

Bad Asses on the Bayou (2015) - Drunk Monk - 04-07-2017

John Amos joins the bad asses in part 3. The old guy schtick is worn thin. The franchise is really silly by now and seems to realize that with a Machete in Space-like teaser at the end for Bad Asses in Bangkock (sp). Trejo seems to have a lot of fun making absurd films. Glover and Amos don't sell the bad ass part as well as Trejo. Predictable. I was amused by the fanny pack bit, but this installment is skippable.
