RIP Vanity - Drunk Monk - 02-16-2016
Never saw her perform live but Nasty Girl is burned into my brain. Let's hear it one more time:
Of course, her role in The Last Dragon was indispensable. On one of those weird research tangents while chasing the Muse, I discovered she was located in Fremont, somewhere very close to our office. Vanity had nearly killed herself on crack, found Jesus and was born-again, forsaken her stage name reverting to Denise Matthews, and became an evangelical. She had massive kidney failure and had to do daily dialysis. Curiosity peaked, I tracked down her ministry address to a P.O. Box just a few miles from our office in a strip mall where I often ate. But I never ran into her. Honestly I don't think I would have recognized her if she wasn't wearing lingerie.
A sad story really. She had an autobiography, Blame it on Vanity, which I thought about reading for a minute or two.
