Rent (2005) - Drunk Monk - 11-13-2014 Remember AIDS? That was the pandemic prior to Bird Flu and Ebola. That one actually killed some of my friends, including one close one. It never went away. It also earned this rock opera a Pulitzer and a Tony. You'd think that with my luv of Bollywood, I would enjoy rock operas. I don't. They never quite get it in my mind unless they are actually composed by rock bands like Tommy or The Wall. Broadway? Oh heck no. Well, maybe Jesus Christ Superstar was okay, but Rent just didn't work for me. See Rosario Dawson play a drugged out stripper (as if that is anything new but I didn't know she could sing and dance so well). See Idina Menzel hang a BA (this one is for LCF :butthead: ). See Taye Diggs rock a nice suit. No swordfights. No dogs. The sets are okay, I guess. Not noteworthy, I just don't got anything else today... Re: Rent (2005) - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 11-13-2014 I'm going with the fact that most Broadway musicals, rock or not, translate poorly to the big screen. The list of current musical to screen translations is also a list of flops. See Jersey Boy, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miz, Rock of Ages . . . That could indeed be the case - Drunk Monk - 11-13-2014 Chris Columbus was the director for Rent. Jesus Christ Superstar made a decent film. Someone should do Cats. It could be all CGI. Re: Rent (2005) - lady_cranefly - 11-13-2014 I'd like to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch on stage. We saw the movie and it was pretty good. And Gene, how petty. Tch, tch, tch. Re: Rent (2005) - El Dingo - 11-14-2014 I saw 'Rent' live and was underwhelmed. The music had no hooks and I really didn't care about the characters. See now? - Drunk Monk - 11-16-2014 ED has my back on this one. And by back I don't mean in a petty way like :butthead: srsly, ED has prolly seen more Broadway musicals than any of DOOM. He should know. |
