Tricky Brains (91) - Drunk Monk - 10-13-2014 Imagine a duel between professional Hong Kong tricksters. No? How about if one of the tricksters is Stephen Chow. This is an early Chow, a full-on mou-lei-tai humor flick, totally absurd with lots of Cantonese puns that don't even translate. Stephen's comicaccomplice Ng Mantat is there. It features a very young Andy Lau too, alongside Chingmay Yau and Rosamund Kwan and is directed by one of the silliest HK directors, Wong Jing. There's a bollywood number and a sword-fight (Peking Opera style). Interesting in a 'check out these early performances' way but if you don't know who any of these actors are, well, I am reminded of Graham Chapman's classic line "Well, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot -- it is a silly place." |
