On Guard (1998) (French) by Philippe de Broca - cranefly - 04-05-2014 I was hoping this movie would at least have a swordfight. The opening scene looked promising, as it took place in a fencing hall full of students. And, yes, the movie delivers. The best scenes come in the first third. It just really worked on all levels. After that, it becomes a revenge tale involving a long passage of time. The final denouement is decent. But at the risk of seeming a prude, I found a relationship development in the ending just a touch disturbing. I sense that this is a highly regarded fencing movie among fencers, but what do I know? No doubt most of you have seen this. Feel free to educate me. Re: On Guard (1998) (French) by Philippe de Broca - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-05-2014 Never seen it, don't know it. Have you ever seen the Spanish film The Fencing Master? That was a good 'un. |
