Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - thatguy - 06-27-2013

Watched this on the plane as there wasn't much else to choose from. Anachronisms galore along the lines of Will Smith's Wild Wild West, and no explanation for it. I found it pretty entertaining anyway. It was a lot like Abraham Lincoln: Zombie Hunter. I had no idea witches were such kick-ass warriors. I'd recommend this one - not highly, but it's not bad…

Okay, I am in hyper critical mode after working on Cranefly's screenplay, so this probably wasn't the best film to be watching. I am in the mood to root out flaws and boy HandK was a smorgasboard of them.

Basically, this is the story of what happened to Hanzel and Gretel after they escaped from the witch. Turns out they are immune to witches powers' so that makes them the perfect witch hunters. On with the blood shed.

Another 3-D movie switched to 2-D. So, again the 3-D bits stand out as awkward. But the story wasn't that bad. The acting was over the top. they had a bunch of steam punk bits with the weird weapons. You should probably watch this as a double feature with Van Helsing because it had the same tone.

They also couldn't decide if they wanted to use modern colloquialisms or historic ones so there was a lot of going back forth. They also wanted their R rating, so people said Fuck a lot. Lots of blood. Plenty of things blowing up. Famke looked good when she wasn't in full witch mode. but everybody had their acting set to full for this one. Not a lot of subtlety.

In the end, I didn't care about the story. The ninety minute movie felt like it took days to complete.

Yes, the Queen is out of town.

Just saw this one too. I was very disappointed. Not even stupid funny or entertaining. echoing what's been said, the anachronisms were distracting (done much better in Van Helsing) and it seemed like they were really shitty witch hunters - they barely won every fight, and never took the advantages they had, instead saying (not very) witty lines and letting the witch get the first blow in. And I didn't think all the violence was really called for - but I think I may be getting old-fashioned on that. The main guy is a bit annoying I thought too.
