Silver Linings Playbook - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 05-20-2013 An uncomfortable film about mental illness centered around the Eagles. That was probably the first clue the film was about insanity since it centered on Eagles fans. Despite my dislike of Bradley Cooper, which this film did nothing to dispel, I felt this was a really good film. The acting was solid. A lot of it was hard to watch because it was confronted the emotions head on and they felt real. It was one of those films that felt completely opposite of the kind of films Hollywood currently produces. But the plot had twists and turns. There were two fights that made you wince and there were dance numbers that also made you wince. It was a good time. Fights, dance numbers, women in hot costumes, mental illness, what more do you want? swords? - Drunk Monk - 05-20-2013 I've liked Bradley Cooper since Alias, but he played kind of a chump in that series, which worked for him. I do want to see this as I like Lawrence. I just watched her SNL appearance, which was mediocre, mostly because they wrote stupid sketches for her. Eagles, huh? I should tell you some stories of the Hell Freezes Over tour. Re: Silver Linings Playbook - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 05-20-2013 You should, but I won't hold my breath. Your story queue must be immense. I've drained most of my stories actually... - Drunk Monk - 05-20-2013 ...I'm always afraid that I'm repeating myself. Gotta experience more to get more stories. Ok, Hell Freezes Over - great name for a reunion tour (when they broke up, they said they'd reunite when 'hell freezes over'). I worked it at the dump (shoreline) and really don't remember much except for tix prices were super high and there were more limos there than any other show I had ever seen then or since. It was like a high school reunion only worse. A lot of couples who were around our age, dressed as if for prom, getting in stupid drunken fights. I remember mediating a ton of drunk couple fights and then walking them all over to find their damn limos. wait now...you meant the Philly Eagles - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2013 I watched this inside out as my family was halfway through it when I got home. Then I went back for the beginning. I liked it. I thought they did a fair job of spinning a tale of mental illness. Cooper was ok; gotta echo Greg's comments here. DeNiro was awesome as always. I'd watch him order a pastrami sandwich and be entertained. Plus he got to say 'fuck' a lot. No one says 'fuck' like DeNiro. And Jennifer, well, she still has my heart as one of my fav starlets now. She rocked her part. Can't wait until the next Hunger Games. Good stuff. Made me chuckle a few times. Think of it as an R-rated romcom. What is it about Philly? It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of my fav sitcoms now and it has a similar undertone to this, albeit more comic. I was raised near there. Does it show? |
