Venerable Shaolin Grandmaster Shi Suxi - Drunk Monk - 03-09-2006
I just got word that Venerable Grandmaster Shi Suxi passed away. He was the greatest Shaolin monk I ever met. He was the last of the monks who survived the Cultural Revolution. I interviewed him several times and had a private banquet dinner at his lodgings in Shaolin Temple. It started long after the temple was closed for the night and it was the latest I ever got to stay in there. There were these amazing green fireflies in the temple at night outside his door. I've never seen fireflies like that ever again - in fact it was the only time I ever saw fireflies in that area at all. That was really weird actually, now that I think back on it.
