One Hundred Thousand Kingdoms - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-15-2011
Almost put this in "Junk-Food Books", but decided that as a first novel it pretty much was a winner. Considering that there was not a whole lotta asskicking, the book kept me attention throughout and had some original concepts and good dialog. Takes place over a couple of weeks and is a [gasp] stand-alone single-volume of the non-trilogy kind.
Human cruelty outpacing devine cruelty, world peace that is anything but, and all good, cheerful things. Check it out from the library or buy it used says I.

Um. This is the first of a trilogy and I've already read the second book. I will grant you, the next novel is set in the same milieu but plays with different characters away from the palace. It's called "The Broken Kingdoms"
