The Rose Bowl Parade Jan 2, 2006 - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-04-2006

The best parade ever. Let Shadenfreude reign! Or rain as the case may be.

For the first time in fifty years, it poured on a Rose Bowl parade. Granted they did hold it on Monday the second rather than the traditional January 1st day and I'm sure that's what did them in. Sunday was a beautiful day. That will show those parade organizers not to mess around with tradition. (Okay the tradition is that the Parade is never held on Sunday so people can get to Church, but work with me here, people)

Thousands of drowned rats watched thousands more drowned particapants march down Colorado Blvd. Some of the kids had rain ponchos on, but there were several groups of flag girls that were in their off the should outfits. How do you march in a sodden wool outfit? How do you play your instrument as it's filling with water. Several of the floats even had to be towed.

I loved it. Next year I want a blizzard.

I noticed the Canadian Scottish Pipe Band didn't even look mussed. I think it was just s typical day for them.

i love rain parades. the greatest parade i ever saw, as some DOOMies who joined me might remember, was a Chinese New Year parade in a torrential downpour. I was living near Daly City bart, so we barted in to the start and it was intense. Poor dragon dancers in chilly t-shirts and silks getting blown down into the gutters. Beauty queens waving from the inside of limos trailing their empty floats. Rudimentary drummers kicking ass in the reverberating downtown section of Market street, whilst all the other instruments in the marching bands whimpered in the cold rain. umbrellas, including ours, gettin ripped to shreds in the wind. it was AWESOME!! dragons cause the rain so it was very fitting. and we were home and dry before the parade even got to Chinatown...
