The Dark Knight - thatguy - 07-19-2008
I was going to go with my son last night, but he went with some friends. He said it was sold out with a line going around the corner...I thought he was going to an early evening show, but it didn't start until 9:30p. Then, I was waiting to hear from him so I could pick him up. The movie is 160 minutes. Be prepared. Don't drink too much soda before you watch...
My son's review: It was worth the $10 (or whatever the ticket cost). It was better than Ironman. It wasn't too gadget-centric.
This morning was his ortho's annual movie party at 8:30am. I rousted him up and we went. He watched it again. He still liked it. I thought it was really good. Hardly any "let's take some of the tension away with humor" moments. Heath Ledger as The Joker was awesome. (Although a bit like Robert Smith on a bad day)

It was this little character piece set inside a $180 million dollar movie.
Natuarally the Batman development gets lost in the loveliness that is the joker. He's got some great sequences. You all need to go see the movie so we can swap stories.
As one reviewer pointed out, it's more of a police procedural than your typical costume hero movie. There were quite a few unexpected twists. There were a lot of lady or the tiger situations as well and just when the movie seems to be over you ramp up a couple of notches. Have an empty bladder before you go.
I don't know why they went to Hong Kong.

I found this film to have very strong HK influences. The dark, unflinching violence, brooding anti-hero and goddamn if The Joker didn't remind me of someone:

I also found many of the action sequences hard to follow.
I enjoyed the movie but probably won't watch it again anytime soon.

Every time I see a Heath Ledger tribute, all I want to do is go rewatch the film. I've now done that twice on DVD. It keeps getting better, more nuance every time. I should just go buy it and drive the Queen crazy. Why so serious?

Another Freudian slip about your true desires, mon ami Pom Daddy? There's always that fateful tale of Highland Ave and it's fog shrowded charms, misteps in the night. A knowing mistake into the boneless bear's arms? Are you sure it's not you who yearns for the Brokeback Mountain?
I'm still watching the Dark Knight. It blows for DVD extras though.
