Colma: the Musical - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 03-15-2008 It should been more aptly titled Daly City: The Musical because that's were most of the action takes place with plenty of fog rolling in. Using Colma in the title was a great idea and using the phrase "Colma Stays" helped too, but I don't think they ever utilized the idea of a massive city of dead. I'm still pulling for my Colma horror film. The first song was catchy and did evoke the idea of everything changing while Colma remained the same. After that things fell off. The story was about three kids just graduating from High School and getting ready for the real world. There's the struggling actor trying to find his first job. There's the gay man who still hasn't come out to his father. And there's the girl and I don't know what her role was other than sounding board for the first two and love object for one. (Strange though, he seemed less hetero than the gay man especially in the play later in the movie where he plays the whacky side kick professessing that he is not gay) The scenes ran on too long. Characters and motivations get lost for long chunks of the film only to suddenly reappear. A lot of the relationships were convenient for the movie but the actors never sold the connections. However, I still have the Colma Stays song in my head. And I liked the song at the end whose title was "The song while the credits roll" I also liked the fact the movie was made with a dollar budget and the stars were the directors and writers. Come on kids I've got a barn and some costumes. Let's put on a show. And there was music and singing (Although sung badly with great chutspah) which is much harder than a straight story. Kudos for trying. |
