working on all that - Drunk Monk - 05-24-2010 it's basically a vanity pub as my company published it. and my company doesn't know shit about the publishing biz, so all of that is really up to me. i'll start calling in favors from booksellers, book reviewers, etc., once i get into summer... Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - The Queen - 05-25-2010 It is *extremely* cool. Still could have more corrections... - Drunk Monk - 05-27-2010 I started reading it and found several errors. Must. Stop. Correcting. I just can't read it for a spell. Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - Drunk Monk - 06-15-2010 Now available on AMAZON http://www.amazon.com/Shaolin-Trips-Gen ... 389&sr=8-1 Feel free to write a review. ;-) Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-15-2010 Do I have to read it first or do you just want a review? Should we bring up the drinking game aspect? Still waiting for my super special copy. I thought we were getting those at the tournament? Thanks for the review, TQ! - Drunk Monk - 08-25-2010 http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A7 ... _cr_dp_pdp two books and two pieces of luggage. nice! I got another review! - Drunk Monk - 10-27-2010 From someone I've never met (although he has worked for us). Tell you friends what great gifts these make. Puh-LEASE.... Finished - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-24-2011 But you really need to talk more about communist atrocities. At least that is what I picked up from the review. You are very offensive. I am a bad person - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-24-2011 I should have helped proof it like I promised and now I feel bad that I didn't. The only reason I finally sat down to read it was my current search for talismans and lodestones to aid in my own Shaolin Journey. Fear is a great motivator. I should have read this book long ago. So many things would be clearer. So many pitfalls would have been missed. So many Faux Paxs avoided. Well maybe not the Faux Paxs. I do have a rep to keep up. Reading this book felt like being overmatched in a fight. The information kept coming like blows to the head. Just when I thought I had a handle on one part there would be a long dissertation on Shaolin itself, or one of the masters, or a fighting style and I would be woozy from information overload all over again. Where does DM keep all this information? This must be his particular form of Kung Fu. The forum really doesn't want me to post this review - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-24-2011 There is some character or some key stroke I did, but every time I try and finish this review, all I get is the whirling ball. Then it I get a pop-up screen asking me if I would like to down load the php file. So, I'm breaking into chunks because I will finish. To continue. I vaguely remember some of these stories, but seeing them in black and white brought them back to life and cemented them in my brain. It was also great to see the other DM. We all know DM from having been friends for eleventy years, but this book showed a side that had only been hinted at. Maybe it had been more than hinted at, but I was only see the tidbits rather than full stories. I should have paid attention to the full stories. Kudos, Mr. DM, kudos After reading the book, nothing was funnier than reading this thread. Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - thatguy - 12-24-2011 After reading the book, can you now take the pebble from DM's hand? --tg PS: I see that your post came from an hour in the future. Have you unravelled the mysteries of time travel? Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-24-2011 When did DM get a pebble? The whirling ball is the Shaolin pebble. - Drunk Monk - 12-27-2011 Thanks for your kind words, Greg In all honesty, I compiled the book from my articles, which gives it that zig-zag-zen tone because I'm always trying to keep my articles fresh and they didn't necessarily flow together as a linear narrative. I also did it so I could reference my previous pubs - the lion's share of the work was in the index (and obviously not proofreading, although I must thank our two DOOM members for their contribution to that effort as without them, it would have been much, much worse). But that was only 2/3rds of my research at the time, and it was already a brick of a book. Not sure what to do with the rest of the research. I don't want to do another compilation like Shaolin Trips. The book burnt me out. I've been trying to get traction on another book ever since, but to no avail. I hope it aids you on your Shaolin journey. Re: SHAOLIN TRIPS by DM - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-27-2011 I have it in my bag. I hope to track down Sifu Decheng and surprise him. I'm not sure where he is right now - Drunk Monk - 12-28-2011 He has two schools, on the NE & NW side of Dengfeng. I've not been to the one on the NE corner as it wasn't built when I was last there. It's supposed to be really nice - designed for foreigners. |
