RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-14-2019 #savethebadlands Quote:BY KAREN ROUGHT | EDITED BY BRANDI DELHAGEN | 11:00 AM EST, FEBRUARY 13, 2019 RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-16-2019 #savethebadlands RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-21-2019 AMC gave me access to the final 8. It’s a heavily protected platform that watermarks it with my name and email, and very glitchy. I would be 3 eps deep but it kept stalling and glitching so I had to start over. I got to s3e10’s beginning until I just gave up. The exhaustion of this day plus the ample redbreast Irish whiskey (gotta go Irish for Badlands) just caught up to me. I must sleep now. Hopefully I’m sedated enough to not wake & tweak. So far, it’s all about Danny, the widow & bajie. Btw, did I mention that Daniel has been emailing me to get together for lunch and an interview? He’s in the area for a few months hiatus. I’ve explained my situation and he says he went through it with his mom a few years ago. Hoping I can catch him soon. RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-22-2019 The glitch was trying to watch it on my iPhone and the screen mirroring it to my appletv so I could watch it on the big screen. It’s running smoothly on my chrome book. Ima gonna binge this now. Badlands is just the medicine I need. So far, this is bloodier and more deeply colorful, plus more gratuitous slo mo. Still luvin it. #savethebadlands RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-22-2019 S3 goes way Dublin with scenes in the long hall and the gaol. There’s also the ultimate widow stilleto fight early up. And then there’s Eugenia - the real daughter of the mighty Chen Pei Pei. Man, I’m gonna miss this show. #savethebadlands RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 02-23-2019 Well, that was satisfying and distracting. Heads rolled. Many heads. And there's closure for the major story arcs and a lot of characters. Lethal closure. Worthy of note - one of the main things that creator Al Gough said would end the Badlands happens at the very end. So maybe it is done in that way. But the door is still open for a 4th season. #savethebadlands. RE: Into the Badlands - cranefly - 03-18-2019 I finished Season 3 last week, two episodes a night over 4 nights. Yes, a lot of heads rolling. This is a good-looking cast of characters, helped by their wardrobes. So much ethnic diversity and dress styles. I hope they get to keep their outfits as they head off into other opportunities. My favorite new character this year was Geiger Counter Girl, which isn't her actual name, but that's how I think of her. What will become of the stunt teams? That was three years of good work for them, and I doubt they'll see as positive a work environment going forward. Any way to track them for a future article? Anyway, so it ends, unless resurrected. I imagine the HK crew goes back to HK, but there were really only a few of them because of imported labor issues in Ireland. One of the lead stuntmen, Matt Lucas, is actually here in the East Bay. We've befriended each other and I keep meaning to do some sort of articles with him because he's got it going on. A very talented martial artist, and Daniel's personal trainer. I enjoy watching him get beat up a lot in the Badlands. He's the one that Bajie bitch-slapped with the octopus. He's also on lucky page 99 of the current Shaolin Special issue in a Shaolin ad. The final 8 episodes start this Sunday & Monday on AMC. I'll tune in, even though I've already seen them. RE: Into the Badlands - Greg - 03-19-2019 Unless they are the Stunt Co-ordinator, most stunt people are day players and brought in for specific needs or skills. They usually don't get long term contracts. Or if they are one of the stars personal stunt people. RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 03-19-2019 True but Into the Badlands was different. That's partly the point. They did bring a few specialists in for a few episodes and specific stunts, but it was built on a Hong Kong stunt team led by Stephen Fung (you remember him - the dude who snubbed me because he was afraid I'd steal his wife) and Andy Cheng. For the first trip, Daniel invited me to their Sunday Dim Sum, which sort of an HK tradition that the stunt directors brought over for the team. RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 03-25-2019 S3 E9 free access for a limited time on AMC RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 04-08-2019 Actually watching S3E12 on AMC 'live' even though I've seen it already. It's interesting to see it with the ad breaks. It's such a live-action anime. They really ramp up the fights, the costumes and the sets in the final 8 eps. It's so brutal tho, so sanguineous. And the Widow is still so hawt. 4 more eps to go. I'm still hoping to get that final interview with Danny. RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 04-15-2019 S3E13: Black Lotus White Rose This is the Dublin ep - the gaol, the long room, and an added bonus, the daughter of Cheng Pei Pei, my namesake, the regal Eugenia Yuan. This ep marked a major change in the series, but it was too late. Fuck Warrior. That show wouldn’t have even happened without Badlands. That being said, I’m not sure the Sound of Silence conclusion quite works. It almost does, like the widow in the flaming temple, but it also misses. Maybe it’s the rendition. The 2nd season opener with Human was spot on though. RE: Into the Badlands - Drunk Monk - 04-19-2019 So I accessed the AMC site to get some fresh pix of Daniel for my upcoming finale interview. I just spent most of it downloading fresh Widow pix. Man, I'm going to miss the Widow. She should have her own show. RE: Into the Badlands - Greg - 04-19-2019 Start writing it. |
