RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-02-2026 Two weird notices came in. One from the Area 51 Film festival thanking me for past success with Iron Crotch and they were looking for anything new that I had done. Great except for the fact Iron Crotch is still under consideration with them and they don't announce until September. I sent them a note asking for clarification. The 4th Dimension told me the status on Iron Crotch has changed from selected to Nominee. There were twenty other filmmakers included on the email. I don't know how that changes anything. 4th Dimension still hasn't decided on a festival line-up. They did send me laurels to share with everyone but it still feels like a participation award given to everyone who sent in a film. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-05-2026 Let's just say that I get a little gun-shy when I receive an email from Film Freeway saying that the status of my film has changed. This was a pleasant surprise. 4th Dimension Film Festival wrote Wrote:Dear Greg, RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2026 (03-05-2026, 09:48 AM)Greg Wrote: Let's just say that I get a little gun-shy when I receive an email from Film Freeway saying that the status of my film has changed. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-05-2026 There will be a screening in Ubud, Bali on March 15th. I don't think I can get there in time. Plus, I am now in the competition for the yearly festival. At some point, I think they will ask if i want to buy the trophy. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - thatguy - 03-05-2026 When you receive them, do not rest on them! --tg RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Drunk Monk - 03-05-2026 Ubud is magical. One of those places where I could die in peace. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-09-2026 Snap back to reality. I received notification via Film Freeway that I will not be attending the Hong Kong Film Festival. They had until Friday to notify but why wait. No one in that neck of the woods has yet to screen the film RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-20-2026 Wow. The Angeles Doc Fest in Los Angeles really doesn't want Iron Crotch as part of their program. They weren't supposed to notify until August. I got a spam email yesterday from a festival in Helsinki. I'm pretty sure they would have given me laurels if I had entered. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 03-26-2026 I will not be going to Idaho. I had hopes for this one. They seemed like the right niche for my Iron Crotch. As usual, I was wrong. The people in Idaho saw about 40 minutes of the film. Feels a bit like a participation trophy. There are two more rounds to go. RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 04-01-2026 And there were fireworks on Film Freeway (where I sign up for festivals) with the announcement.
RE: Iron Crotch Festival Announcements - Greg - 04-08-2026 The Conundrum. I received an email yesterday touting the fact I had reached the final round of review before the film festival decides to accept Iron Crotch or not. Their first question is whether I will still be having a world premiere at their festival. Then they want to know how I will use their film festival to promote my film. In the world of film festival, having a World Premiere is kind of good bait to have to entice people to your festival. It's one of the small pieces of leverage I have to get into festival and this festival, Dances with Films, based in Los Angeles, wants to have that World Premiere. If it was a simple Quid pro Quo, you give us the World Premiere and we'll screen your film at the festival, I'd say sure. But that's not what the letter offers. Dances with Films just wants to know if that's on the table while they make their decision. If I say yes, I have to withdraw from about four other festivals that are currently considering Iron Crotch. All of those festivals have screenings before Dances. One of those festival is Tribeca. Yes, I dream of screening at Tribeca. Do I think I have an actual shot at Tribeca? Not really. But I think I have to try. One of the scenarios is I pull out of these other festivals and Dances still declines to accept me into their festival. Going with my current track record of acceptances, chances are high I will not be chosen by any of these festivals. Maybe it's a little more likely Dances will choose Iron Crotch because they have sent me this email. But a little voice in the back of my head argues, "What if they sent that letter to all the Documentary submissions?" Hope is a terrible thing. By withdrawing from the other four festival, my chances of getting in them goes from minuscule to zero. What to do. What to do. Probably the real kicker that is messing with my head is the venue for the Dances with Films festival. The Festival is run out of the TCL Chinese Theater, better known as Graumann's Chinese Theater. |
