RE: Brain circus insomnia - Drunk Monk - 06-01-2021 Our landlord’s property manager installed some of those forever fire alarms. They go off at random every once in a while - total crying wolf scenario. And the off buttons don’t work well. I’ve smashed one of them out of frustration and deactivated the pesky ones, all except one I think - the one in the NCham. That one just went off. Now I’m awake thinking about how I need to replace all of them before the next inspection. Been meaning to do that for the whole pandemic. The property manager was so proud of them. Now I’m awake thinking about how I need to replace all of them before the next inspection. When I was renting a studio up Old SJ Rd, my landlord decided to replace my existing unit and put the new one on the ceiling at the max height of the peaked roof. I had no ladder, fun times... At a different place, I had a couple that would go off randomly, usually in the middle of the night. But they were all connected so all of the units in the entire house would go off. It took me a long time to isolate the culprits, but I found that putting them in the freezer was a good way to stop hearing their noise. The false alarms seem to be a common complaint around here. One time, I was riding my bicycle around our complex and I passed by a parked car that had a smoke alarm going off inside it. Presumably the resident was perturbed by the noise and didn't think about putting it in the freezer. --tg RE: Brain circus insomnia - King Bob - 06-01-2021 We had to have a building inspection for permit sign-off after we redid the HVAC, so I had to put smoke/carbon monoxide alarms up in both bedrooms (even though one is not used as such) and the hallway, and they all were within a 10 ft radius. We had lots of false alarms for a while - once because a spider was trying to take up residence inside one of the alarms. I wound up tossing two of them and just leaving the one in the bedroom. RE: Brain circus insomnia - Drunk Monk - 06-16-2021 My hours have been all off this trip because I’ve been keeping more to Stacy’s schedule and stressing the transition, plus indulging in a lot of coffee. Tonight was the worst. Been tweaking about the trip home and all the details of it. I used to love long solo drives but the drive in was so rough and I’ve not driven this far with Yuki. Plus I’m worried for Stacy and phoebe - that Civic has well over 200k on it. Coincidentally to the prior discussion, out landlord’s property manager called yesterday for the annual inspection so I need to replace that fire alarm I smashed tomorrow. To quote one of the dead’s most timeless lyrics ‘I’d like to get some sleep before I travel...’ RE: Brain circus insomnia - Greg - 06-16-2021 How did you smash the fire alarm in the future? RE: Brain circus insomnia - Drunk Monk - 06-16-2021 Shhhhh. Don’t report me to the TVA, mmkay? Trying to get back to sleep has been fruitless. Yuki keeps barking at hotel noises. He’s not good in hotels yet. I might as well get up now. RE: Brain circus insomnia - Greg - 06-16-2021 It's TVA DAY! IT"S TVA DAY! It was rock solid (except one of the window cranks didn't work, and one of the plastic window visor locks had started to deteriorate). Those cars are tanks. --tg RE: Brain circus insomnia - Greg - 06-16-2021 I got to swap out car batteries today in the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot. LIKE A BOSS! RE: Brain circus insomnia - thatguy - 06-16-2021 I had almost 300k on my Toyota Supra...it did have a 30k Japanese replacement engine in it, but the rest of the car had 300k miles. I think it had 119k when I got it. --tg RE: Brain circus insomnia - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-16-2021 (06-16-2021, 02:15 PM)Greg Wrote: I got to swap out car batteries today in the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot. LIKE A BOSS! How hot was it in the parking lot? A bazillion degrees? RE: Brain circus insomnia - Greg - 06-16-2021 A brisk 95°! RE: Brain circus insomnia - Drunk Monk - 06-16-2021 I drank more than my share of caffeine today - 2 tejavas, some ice brew coffee Tara gave me, and some weird coffee turmeric smoothie drink that was an impulse buy. I usually only drink tea. I am literally vibrating but that might just be post 8.5 hour drive echoes. I thought I’d be up for some Telly but I turned it on and couldn’t figure out what to watch. The nite cheese is kicking in. Maybe I can sleep now. I feel like I can but that means I’ll probably wake up at 2 and revisit this thread. RE: Brain circus insomnia - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-17-2021 After 3:00am and no DM. That's a good sign. Nite Cheese worked its magic.
